Simple. Easy. And fearlessly delicious. That is our Iced Americano.

Our recipe for today is very beginner-friendly, but still of high quality. It’s best for you if you like simple and easy recipes only, or if you are a busy person who has little to no time in making beverages.

Typically, the Iced Americano is a cold version of your classic Americano. It’s very refreshing and is good enough to boost up your day.

They said it’s best for the summer. But hey, we think it’s still an excellent option for all seasons!

So, if you’re wondering how can you make an Iced Americano, then read on as we unleash its very simple steps!

What is an Iced Americano?

Before we try to make an Iced Americano, let’s discuss what it is first.

The Iced Americano is similar to that of the classic Americano, except that it’s served over ice. See the comparison below for a better understanding.

Classic Americano: These are made using espresso coffee and hot water.

Iced Americano: These are made by pouring espresso shots over ice and then adding cold water to the drink.

If you’re a fan of strong, black, and cold coffee drinks, then you’ll definitely love to make an Iced Americano.

Difference Between Iced Americano & Iced Coffee

If you look at Iced Americano, you would probably think that it looks like a regular iced coffee. They’re both cold and iced. So, what’s the difference?

The espresso is mainly what makes the Iced Americano distinct.

Regular iced coffee is made using any kind of brewed coffee, while iced Americano is made using espresso. And because the Iced Americano is made with espresso, you’ll see crema along the top—which you wouldn’t see in an iced coffee.

In addition, Iced Americano contains added water, while iced coffee usually uses cubes of ice to cool it down.

So yup, they are indeed both iced coffee. But the difference is mainly in the method of how you make them.

Iced Americano at Starbucks

Did you know that Starbucks makes their Iced Americano a little bit different that the usual way?

Traditional Way: Made by adding espresso coffee shots to the ice, then adding cold water.

Starbucks Way: Made by adding cold water to the espresso coffee shots instead.

The final taste of the coffee drink will be the same as the regular Iced Americano, but the crema on top will be a little less in Starbucks.

Overall, the Starbucks version of the Iced Americanos is a nice rich cup with enough depth and detail. You can also ask your Barista to add two shots of espresso if you want. A decaf option is also available if you prefer it that way.

Also, note that the Iced Americanos in Starbucks have no syrups or milk, so you must tell your Barista beforehand if you want to add them to your drink.

Ingredients You Will Need

Okay, let’s get right into the ingredients. These are very simple and you should have no problems getting them!

Iced Americano Ingredients:

Espresso: Double shot of espresso. Dark, medium or light coffee beans work well for an Iced Americano as long as it’s brewed as espresso.

Water: Use either purchased bottled water or cold filtered water. This ensures you’ll get a better flavor on your Iced Americano.

Ice: Half a cup of ice. Similar to water, we recommend using ice made from filtered water.

How to Make an Iced Americano

Now that you know your ingredients, it’s time to put some action! Below is what you’ll need to follow to make your own Iced Americano.

Easy Steps To Iced Americano

  1. Prepare two (2) shots or 60ml of espresso. You can use an espresso machine or a Moka pot to do this.
  2. Fill in a tall glass with ice cubes. We recommend doing this while your espresso is pouring.
  3. Pour the espresso over the ice cubes.
  4. Add 60ml amount of water and mix the drink well to combine.
  5. And that’s it! You may now enjoy your freshly-brewed iced Americano!

Tips From the Experts

Do you feel like you can still level up your Iced Americano but don’t know what to do?

No worries, because we have expert tips made especially for you that’ll bring that extra kick you’re looking for.

Tips You Should Try:

  • Add a small amount of water to your tall glass before you add the ice. This secret helps increase the amount of espresso crema left on the top of the beverage.
  • If you don’t like overly acidic coffee, you can try a ristretto shot instead of espresso to make the drink.
  • In contrast, if you like it stronger, you can always add another shot of espresso. You can even make your ice cubes using iced coffee.

Indeed, there are a lot of ways you can experiment with this simple and famous coffee drink recipe. We recommend trying them as all of them are promising. You won’t regret it!
